Welcome to the fourth edition of Music Monday! This week's winning song was Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen! Remember, we take suggestions so don't hesitate to send a DM to @thetannertimes on Instagram.
If you’ve ever listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, you probably agree that it is a really great song, and some argue it is the best song ever recorded. The song was officially released on the 31st of October, 1975 on the album A Night at the Opera. The song is 5:55 minutes long which was considered too long for their main single at the time because radio stations would generally only play songs that hit the 3 and a half minute mark. Freddie Mercury, who actually started writing the song in the late 60’s, insisted along with his bandmates that this was going to be the single ignoring the length of the song.
The song has different sections ,including a the ballad section, the opera section (including the well known ‘Galileos’), the rock section, and then ending with a reflection with piano once again. In fact, the songs producer Roy Thomas once said, “He played the beginning on the piano, then stopped and said, 'And this is where the opera section comes in!'” Audrey and I both agree that the opera section is our favorite part of the song. I also really like the rock section and the guitar solo by Brian May. In my opinion, I could argue in many ways how this could be the best song of all time. Freddie Mercury’s voice, along with the captivating lyrics at the beginning, like “Mama, just killed a man,” can be interpreted in many ways. The song's different sections make it all the more interesting to listen to. On the other hand, lip-syncing this song is always a bash.
Overall, I highly suggest you listen to this song, if you haven’t already! It seems like almost everyone has heard of this song, though, and many people have also seen the recently released movie of the same name (which was also a really amazing film). There is so much more to say about this song, but then this article would be way too long! Make sure you give Bohemian Rhapsody a listen here on YouTube and Spotify!
